EVELYN EILEEN NEUBAUER
Evelyn Eileen Neubauer, 94, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Birmingham, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, at the Savannah Heights Care Center in Mount Pleasant. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Birmingham United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions in Evelyn's honor may be directed to the Birmingham United Methodist Church Rebekah Circle or to Fell Cemetery and mailed to Connie Dickinson, 3001 Hickory Lane, Mount Pleasant, IA 52641. Evelyn E. Wilson was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Fairfield, Iowa. She was the daughter of Albert and Hazel Maxwell Wilson. She grew up in the Libertyville, Iowa, community and graduated as valedictorian from Libertyville High School in 1942. Evelyn then went on to graduate from Parson's College in Fairfield. On June 2, 1948, she married Duane Neubauer. They farmed and raised their family together in the Liberty Township of Jefferson County. They were able to celebrate 62 years of marriage before Duane's death on Jan. 8, 2011.
Mrs. Neubauer taught in rural schools in Jefferson and Van Buren counties, as well as the Hedrick and Cardinal Community School Districts. Most of her teaching career was spent with the Fairfield Community School District at Libertyville Elementary. She was a previous member of the Iowa State Education Association, Iowa Reading Association and the Jefferson-Van Buren Reading Association. She maintained her membership with the Birmingham United Methodist Church, where she attended for many years. Duane and Evelyn were Volunteers in Mission with the Methodist Church in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Belize and the United States for 10 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, teacher and friend who will be deeply missed.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane Neubauer, in 2011; and one sister, Louise Mourer.
Survivors include her children, Ron (Judy) Neubauer of Fairfield, Connie (Mike) Dickinson of Mount Pleasant and Judy (Mark) Lyon of Maquoketa; nine grandchildren, Clay (Megan Mercer) Neubauer, Cliff (Christine) Neubauer, Crystal Neubauer, Tony (Kim) Dickinson, Kristi (Mark Hebbard) Dickinson, Kim (Justin) Hayward, Andrew Lyon, Peter (Kelly) Lyon and Joey Lyon; six great-grandchildren, with a seventh to be born in November; as well as many extended family and friends.
