Florence Elizabeth ?Tip? Dabner
Florence Elizabeth ?Tip? Dabner, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 2:17 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant with the Revs. Kiboko I. Kiboko and Robert Williams officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor?s choice.
Mrs. Dabner was born April 7, 1916, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Bert and Rosetta McGregor Wells. She married Raymond Franklin Dabner in Monmouth, Ill. A lifelong resident of Mt. Pleasant, she was a homemaker and also worked as a housekeeper for several years at the home of Ruth and E. A. Hayes. She enjoyed watching football and basketball with the Hawkeyes and Chicago Bulls being her favorite teams. She was a member of the Burlington branch of the N.A.A.C.P. and was especially proud to be the first recipient of the Gladys White Award. She attended Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Keokuk.
Survivors include six daughters, Trixie Ward, Marilyn Wilson and Allies Russell, all of Des Moines; Kathy Martin of Ames; Linda Bradley of Burlington; and Joy Jenkins of Carson, Calif.; a son, Dr. Elmer E. Wells of Pueblo, Colo.; a sister, Gladys Bennett of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Charles Wells of Minneapolis, Minn.; 29 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a daughter, three sisters and five brothers.
