Florence Fern Coughlin

Florence Fern Coughlin, 67, of Salem, died Wednesday morning, June 28, 2000, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Father William Barnabus Barker and Greg Heartsill officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 30, with family present to greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established to Lewelling Quaker House.

Mrs. Coughlin was born January 11, 1933, in Eckley, Colo., the daughter of Elmer and Edna Abbott Lamb. On January 11, 1950, she married Archie Long who preceded her in death. In November 1959 she married Robert P. Coughlin, who preceded her in death on December 27, 1980.

She attended grade school in Eckley and later in Salem. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Davenport and at Service Rubber in Rock Island, Ill. She also worked at Cargill Seed, was a home health worker, and did frequent baby-sitting. She moved to Salem in 1974 and was a Methodist.

Survivors include her sons, Archie Long of Park Forest, Ill.; Joe Long of Salem; Pat Coughlin of Mt. Pleasant; Kenny Coughlin of Des Moines; a daughter, Bobbi Jean Coughlin of Salem; a sister, Faye Heartsill of Salem; a brother, Tom Lamb of Salem; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Lamb; and a sister, Ilene Thompson.
