Florence Eleanor "Granny" Willey Smith, 99, of Burlington died at 9:50 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at the Burlington Care Center.
The funeral service was at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at Lunning Chapel in Burlington with the Rev. Alan Ourth officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 20, 1900, in New London, the daughter of Lawrence and Mathilda Fischer Willey. She married Clarence Bertram "Red" Smith on Aug. 18, 1918, in New London. She was a midwife for Dr. Mehler and a homemaker. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as well as a 50-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Zion's Daughters of the Church. She was also a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Survivors include a son, Lawrence "Pete" Smith of Burlington; a daughter, Ethel Miller of Farmington; 16 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 50 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Cartha Messer Blythe; a grandson, Fred Messer; a great-grandson; and four sisters.
