Florence June Wesely, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, June 5, 2020, peacefully in her sleep at Sunnybrook Assisted Living Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Florence was born June 1, 1927, at Trenton, Iowa, the daughter of John William and Bertha (Christner) Hill. She attended school at Star Country School. Florence was united in marriage to Wilbur Shirkey on July 7, 1947, in Iowa City, he preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1950. She later married Merlin "Mike" Wesely on Sept. 4, 1954, in Iowa City, he preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 2017.

Florence worked at Panther Rexall Drug Store, JCPenney and Mt. Pleasant Community Schools in food service. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church of Mt. Pleasant, Lutheran Women's Missionary League and Trenton American Legion Auxiliary.

Florence is survived by her children, Sandra Allender of Mt. Pleasant, Mark (Janet) Wesely of Danville, Nancy Weigert of Mt. Pleasant and Amy (Todd) Mabeus of Mt. Pleasant; her grandchildren, Josh Shirkey, Gabe Shirkey, Amanda Walljasper-Tate, Sara Walljasper, Katie Kremer, Stephanie Erdmann, Emily Wolfe, Natalie Wesely, Travis Weigert, Shaylee Weigert, Hannah Mabeus, Mikayla Yaley, Courtney Vitale and Trevor Mabeus; 11 great-grandchildren, her brother, Stan Hill of Mt. Pleasant; and her sister, Melva Sammons of Mt. Pleasant.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Wilbur and Merlin; two sons, Richard Shirkey and Charles Shirkey; sons-in-law, Jerry Allender and Jeff Weigert; her brothers, Lester Hill, Jay Hill, Carl Hill, Max Hill and Kenny Hill; and her sisters, Leola Whitney and Mina Crile.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Michael Scudder officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. The family received friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. June 8, 2020, at the Faith Lutheran Church. Visitation also was held June 8, 2020, at Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Memorials may be directed to the Faith Lutheran Church in her memory.
