FRANCES ELEANOR (GILL) MOORE

Frances Eleanor (Gill) Moore passed peacefully into an eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 5, 2021, after reaching 100 years of age on this earth. Private graveside services will be held with a Celebration of Life service to be announced at a later date. Memorials may be left to Hospice Compassus of Washington in memory of Frances. Frances Gill was born in Woodward, Iowa, on May 16, 1921, to Henry and Jessie (Cahill) Gill. She spent her early childhood moving from one central Iowa coal mining town to another until her parents were able to rent a farm near Woodward. She reminisced, as a child, the adventures of walking a four mile round trip to the one room school house she attended from kindergarten to eighth grade. She graduated from Woodward High School.

Frances was active in her youth with youth church groups, community Farm Bureau plays, 4H activities, playing basketball at Woodward High School and then the American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, Iowa, having received a partial sports scholarship. She received her associate of business degree from AIC and found work for Prudential Insurance as a business secretary for several years.

Frances met and married Joseph Lyle Moore in March 1948, before moving to his farm located outside of Columbus Junction, Iowa. Together they raised four children, Irene (Tim) Dunkerton of Bellevue, Wash., Lee (Priscilla) Moore of Hutchison, Minn.N, Carolyn (Albert) Atkins of Muscatine, Iowa, and Jay (Rita) Moore of Columbus Junction, Iowa, until her husband's death in a farming accident in 1958.

Frances worked at Columbus Community Schools as a school bus driver and lunch program assistant for many years. She enjoyed playing softball in the women's league right into the late 1960s while also enjoying the arts. She truly found joy in sketching and painting landscapes which she shared with family and friends.

All of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with everyone who knew Frances prior to the later stages of Alzheimer/Dementia disease will deeply miss her heart felt smiles, her independent attitude and positive outlook on life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Marcus, Sharon and Ronald; husband, J. Lyle; and one grandson, Nathan.
