INDIANOLA ? Frances Augusta Roland, 92, of Indianola, died Monday, April 25, 2016, in the Good Samaritan Society in Indianola.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 1, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, followed by a service at 3 p.m. Cremation will follow services, and burial of cremains will be held at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A memorial has been set up in her name for macular degeneration. The Overton Funeral Home of Indianola is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Roland was born April 29, 1923, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Floyd and Eva Bower. She married Henry T. Roland on Jan. 1, 1946, at Henry?s grandmothers? farm.
She attended Lockridge grade school and graduated from Fairfield High School. After graduation she attended Parsons College in Fairfield. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. A.H. Singley in Fairfield during World War II. She and her husband lived in Fairfield until they moved near Washington, where they lived in several homes. She enjoyed raising chickens, having a large garden, and growing flowers. Around 1959, she and her husband moved into town on 15th Street, where they lived until 1977, when her husband built a home on Main Street. They then moved to Monroe Street in 1982. Later she enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included reading, needle crafts and watching John Wayne movies. She worked as a secretary for 16 years for John Owen, attorney at law in Washington. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Faith Baptist Church, and then the Methodist Church. She was president of several women?s missionary groups. She also was a member of the women?s Legion Auxiliary, and she enjoyed Poppy Days and Memorial Day. She and her husband moved back to Fairfield in 2004, where they lived until his death in 2009. She then moved to Indianola to be near her daughter.
Surviving are two daughters, Judith Gunnarson and husband Curt of Hamilton, Ohio, and Theresa Reschly and husband Lonnie of Indianola; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; two brothers; and her husband, Henry.
