Francis J. Reed

      Francis J. Reed, 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at Parkview Manor in Wellman, following a lengthy illness.

      A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ed O'Melia officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.

      Visitation began at noon today at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, with a prayer service set for 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

      A memorial in the name of Francis J. Reed has been established to Hospice of Iowa City.

      Mr. Reed was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Washington, the son of Harry and Rose Smith Reed. He married Clara Dobras June 25, 1946, at the Catholic church in Fairfield. She died Oct. 8, 2005.
