Frank Arthur Lumm
Grinnell
With deep regret, we announce the passing of Frank Arthur Lumm, who peacefully departed this world on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the age of 83. His final moments were cherished in the loving presence of family and friends, a testament to the profound impact he had on those who were fortunate to share in his remarkable life.
Born on October 2, 1940, in East Chicago, IN, Frank Arthur Lumm was the child of Frances and Teresa (Potchen) Lumm. In 1957, he embarked on a journey of service, enlisting in the United States Navy, where he was eventually stationed in San Diego, CA. It was there that fate introduced him to the love of his life, Ms. Judith Catherine Jedlicka, who was on a tour of his ship. Their love story began, and on October 29, 1960, they were united in matrimony, setting the stage for a timeless fairy tale. Over the course of 56 years, they welcomed three children into their lives: Frankie, Becky, and Christina. Together, they crisscrossed the United States in pursuit of job opportunities and adventures, all in the quest for a better quality of life for their cherished family. The love shared between Judy and Frank served as an enduring example of the purest and most enduring kind, inspiring all those who were fortunate to bear witness.
Frank was a profoundly generous individual who approached every encounter with dignity and respect, touching the lives of all who crossed his path. His lifelong dedication was to the service of others, enabling countless individuals to seize opportunities that might have otherwise eluded them. His passions extended to family, fishing, and woodworking, with a piece of his craftmanship adorning the homes of countless family members.
Frank leaves behind a legacy cherished by his surviving family: Brothers Ralph Edward Lumm of Yorktown, IN, and George Lumm of Newark, CA; son Frank Edward Lumm of Panama City Beach, FL; daughter and son-in-law Rebecca Ann Lumm-Daffner and Brent Daffner of Catawba, SC; daughter Christina Marie Lumm-Marlow of Grinnell, IA; and grandchildren Sara Irene Belanger, Leo Jaieson Belanger of Goodyear, AZ, and Laine Edward Belanger of Butte, MT.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith Catherine (Jedlicka) Lumm, his parents Frances and Teresa (Potchen) Lumm, as well as his Mother and Father-in-law, Edward and Irene Jedlicka, and his brothers Edward (Sonny), George (Butch), and Christopher Jedlicka.
The void left by Frank's passing will remain with all those who knew and loved him, a chasm that can never truly be filled. We are forever blessed to have had the privilege of his presence, enriching our lives in countless ways.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, Iowa. The event will commence at 11:00 a.m. and conclude with a scripture service, officiated by Rev. John Epperson, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to three charities close to Frank's heart: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Paralyzed Veterans of America, and Disabled Veterans of America. Contributions can be sent to Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
