Frank H. Hoenig, 83, of Keosauqua and Hillsboro, died Monday, Feb. 25, at Donnellson Health Center.
Visitation begins at 4 p.m. today, Feb. 27, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at the church, with the Rev. Apo Mpanda as celebrant. Burial will be at Hillsboro Cemetery, with full military rites by the Bonaparte American Legion.
A memorial has been established in his memory. Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home and Crematory in Farmington is assisting with arrangements.
He was born Dec. 4, 1924, in West Point, the son of Frank and Mary Schroeder Hoenig. On June 17, 1950, he married Maxine Winfield in West Point.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he was a lifelong farmer and did bulldozing in the area. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Farmington and the Bonaparte American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Yvonne Hoenig and her partner Wade Troutman of Bonaparte, his special daughter, Elizabeth Kuster of Bonaparte; two brothers, the Rev. Gerald Hoenig of Ft. Madison and David Hoenig and his wife Helen of Ft. Madison; four sisters, Jean Helling of Ft. Madison, Gretchen Joachim and her husband Lester of Silver Cliff, Wis., Bernadette Cramblit and her husband Robert of Ft. Madison, and Ruth Coffey and her husband Fred of Wever; one sister-in-law, Pat Hoenig of West Point; two grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
His parents, brothers Albert and Ralph, and nephew Jimmy Hoenig preceded him in death.
