Franklin D. “Frank” Russell, age 91, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the Keosauqua Health Care Center in Keosauqua, Iowa.
General calling hours will begin 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present to receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Frank was born November 18, 1932, in Greenfield, Iowa, the son of Joy and Pearl (Hadley) Russell. He attended school in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School. Frank was united in marriage to Rose Marie Wheaton on October 3, 1955, in Winchester, Virginia. Frank served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Frank lived most of his life in Washington, Iowa. He worked for an earth-moving company, operating a bulldozer and scraper. He assisted in the construction of the Coralville Dam. Frank later worked at International Harvester/ Hennigan Implement Company and then at John Deere Implement until his retirement. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, deer hunting, and attending fish fries. Frank cooked fish at the KC Hall many Friday nights during Lent and enjoyed doing mechanical work for area farmers. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Pittsburg Steelers fan.
He is survived by his son, Randy Russell and wife Erica of Birmingham, Iowa; daughter, Gloria Miller and husband Steve of Wayland, Iowa; five grandchildren: Tyler Russell, Whitney Hoffman, Mary Russell, Ryan Russell and Stephen Russell; and one sister, Margaret Jameson of Grimes, Iowa.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife in 1992; daughter, Valarie Lanham and husband Jim; and eleven brothers and sisters.
