Franklin Joseph "Frank" Lukavsky, 84, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Celebration of life services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Calling hours will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established for the Washington Steele Aquatic Center or Washington County Master Gardeners. Online condolences may be sent for Frank's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com.
Frank was born Sept. 17, 1935, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Joseph Edward and Margaret Ann (Suffel) Lukavsky. He graduated from Richland High School in 1954. He served honorably in the U.S. Army, where he was in the military police. Frank was united in marriage to Evelyn Ruth Linnenkamp on June 20, 1959, in Washington.
Frank was employed by the Washington Community School District for 32 years where he worked in ground maintenance and was a school bus driver. He was previously the streets commissioner for the city of Washington. He was a board member of the Izaak Walton League, Washington pool commissioner, president of the Washington Swim Team, president of the Columbus Junction and Washington Bowling League and was captain of the Washington County Special Deputies. Frank worked security for the Farm Progress Show and the Washington County Fair. He was an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman and bowler. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping and especially enjoyed mushroom hunting. His true passion was his grandchildren and he loved playing cards, celebrating holidays and attending their activities.
He is survived by his daughter, Theresa Finch and husband Ken of Ankeny; daughter, Carole Martins and Curt Pacha of Brighton; four grandchildren, Kelsey Martins and Matt Lins of Washington, David Finch and Emilie Christ of Los Angeles, Katelyn Martins of Columbia, Mo., and Christopher Finch of New York, N.Y.; sister, Joan Palmer and husband Tom of Washington; sister, Mary Mitchell of Wayland; sister-in-law, Elaine Todd and husband Bob of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn, in 2015; infant son, Franklin Jr.; brother, Irvin White; sisters, Anna Darlene Lukavsky, Bernice Fletcher and Lillian Evans; and son-in-law, Craig Martins, in 1996.
