Freda Arlene Fuller was born on December 2, 1930 in Mercer County, Illinois, the daughter of Guy S. and Velma E. (Spitznogle) Fuller. Freda was united in marriage to Charles E. Hoag on June 10, 1949, in New Providence, Iowa.
Freda graduated from Muscatine High School in 1949. She was a member of the Bloomington Friends Church, Muscatine, Iowa, and served on many committees throughout the years. She spent her working years serving others as a private housekeeper and as a Sunday School teacher. She was a farmer's wife and lived on the farm all her married life. Raising children, canning and freezing vegetables and fruits, tending to beautiful flower gardens, sewing, and embroidering were some of her attributes. She was known as the "bread lady" because she would make cinnamon bread and oatmeal bread every Saturday. She was also well known for her flakey crust fruit pies. She was a great cook and every potluck she insisted that she bring an entire meal.
Freda will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but especially by her children, Mary Ellen (David) Wheeler of Casper, WY, Edward F. (Gayle) Hoag of Columbus Junction, Frances A. (Brian) Lessenger of Grandview, Paul S. Hoag of Columbus Junction, and other family members; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Harold Fuller of Colorado Springs, CO, Sam (Rosalie) Fuller of Cranberry Township, PA, Carol McKiddy of Muscatine, Vada (John) Baker of West Liberty, and A. Joan Wedekind of Texas.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2015; sons, Jerry (in infancy) and Marvin Hoag; daughter-in-law, Rita; granddaughters, Sarah Wheeler and Mary Frances Wheeler (in infancy); brothers, Guy Fuller and Ronald Fuller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
