Frederick M. Asby
Frederick Morris Asby, 97, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Oct. 29, at The Woodlands in Cedar Rapids.
His body was cremated. Services are being managed by Elliott Chapel of New London, and will be held at a later date.
Frederick was born April 25, 1910 in Mediapolis, the son of Everett and Mary Witte Asby. On May 28, 1934, he married Ethel Marie Bohlen in Lewistown, Ill.
A graduate of Danville High School and Iowa State University, he worked for Standard Oil as a road truck driver in Burlington, for JI Case, as an electrician and farmed with his father. He was an amateur radio technician and ham radio operator, worked with stained glass and wood carving. He loved to travel, read, garden, and taught himself plumbing, cement and electrical work.
He is survived by his wife; one son, David Asby and his wife Marjorie of Solon; two daughters, Mary Ann Root and her husband Larry of Cedar Rapids and Janet Schroder of Danville; one sister, Violet Luckman of Coquille, Ore., 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
His parents; one brother, Thomas Everett Asby; one son-in-law, E. "Turk" Schroder; and one sister, Elizabeth Asby, preceded him in death.
