Frieda was born in rural Crawfordsville on August 18, 1926, to Evan “Dutch” and Jessie (Moody) Rees. She graduated from Wyman High School in 1944 and then attended the American Institute of Commerce (AIC) in Davenport. After graduating from AIC, she was a secretary at McCleery-Cumming Company in Washington. On February 24, 1946, she married Merlin Finke and were married for 67 years during which time they had 3 children.
Frieda was involved in numerous activities and clubs throughout her life including being a member of the United Church of Crawfordsville (serving as church secretary for 20 years and on the Parish Council and other church committees); a member of U.C.W., Dorcas, the Wyman Community Club, and White Cloud Club; and was a 4-H leader for a number of years and served on the Louisa County 4-H Committee. She also helped her husband for 27 years in the Pioneer Seed Corn business and with farming their farm.
She enjoyed Tuesday morning coffee time, watching her children’s and grandchildren’s various school activities, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals games, playing the piano, reading, traveling, and cooking. She was especially well-known in the community for her delicious homemade pies.
Frieda is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Philip) Deats of Clive; son, Bill (Cindy) Finke of Winfield; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Verla Finke of Iowa City; Madonna Jack of Carlisle; and Janet Rees of Columbus Junction.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Hospice of Washington County and Sunrise Terrace for their compassionate care in her final days.
