G. William ?Bill? Barr, 85, of Washington, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, in the McCreedy Home in Washington.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 5, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will follow at the Green Mound Cemetery in Trenton. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County.
Mr. Barr was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Trenton Township, the son of Jess and Dorcas (Ball) Barr.
He attended Crawford No. 4 rural school, where he and his siblings walked to school in warm, sunny and breezy weather and also in rain, sleet and snow. In the early ?40s he moved with his family to Washington. In August 1952 he was drafted into the Army. He was honorably discharged due to medical issues in July 1953. He worked for the Washington Sewer Department for many years. He enjoyed going to Old Threshers, old trains, steam engines, tractors and cars, and taking rides in the country, especially to the Villages of Van Buren County. He also enjoyed attending flea markets in What Cheer, going to the Swedesburg Museum and attending the Swedish pancake breakfast at the Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church. He spent many mornings at Evan?s Welding, making sure the fire was going and ready for the day.
Surviving are four sisters, Wynona Woods of Corydon, Vada Secrest, Alice Hesser, and Hazel Sinn, all of Washington; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; one brother, Roger and wife Nancy Barr; and four brothers-in-law, Jim Sinn, Rodney Woods, Jim Hesser, and Gordon Secrest.
