LONE TREE ? Garold Buline ?Tub? Brinkmeyer, 94, of Lone Tree, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, in Pioneer Park Care Center in Lone Tree.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree with the Rev. Jim Bonewald officiating. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Following committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m., Friday at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. A general memorial has been established at the funeral home.
Mr. Brinkmeyer was born Aug. 29, 1921, in Lone tree, the son of Lacey and Bessie (Buline) Brinkmeyer. He married his high school sweetheart, Laura R. Green, on May 8, 1943, at an outdoor wedding in her parents? yard.
He was a graduate of Lone Tree High School. He was an Army veteran, serving in World War II. He dedicated his life to agriculture. He joined his father on the family farm when he returned home from the service. His son, John, joined him in keeping the farm operation going. Brinkmeyer Farms Inc. became a Century Farm in 1994. He was a member of various agriculture organizations. He grew up with a strong faith in God. He served as an elder of the Lone Tree UCC Church during the time when the decision was made to combine with the Methodist Church in Lone Tree. During that time, the decision was made for the two churches to become a part of the Presbyterian denomination. He then served as an elder of the United Presbyterian Church of Lone Tree. He was a strong believer in education and served on the Lone Tree community School Board. He was the school board president in 1956 when the school burned down, and worked hard in the decisions made to rebuild the school. He was a 70-plus-year member of the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457. He was a member of the local Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. He enjoyed his time with the local ?Coffee Buddies? and was always ready to have a good laugh. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan (?Go Hawks!?). He loved to travel, and he and his wife took many trips to various places across the United States and around the world. Some of those trips were with the Hills Bank Friends Club. He loved his family and delighted in his grandchildren and great-grandsons.
Surviving are two children, Elaine K. Hempel and husband Robert of La Grange Park, Illinois, and John G. Brinkmeyer and wife Judy of Lone Tree; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; one brother, Dale Brinkmeyer and wife Diane of New London; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Laura, in 1998.
