Gary W. York
Gary W. York, 75, of Washington passed in his home amongst loved ones on Friday March 11, 2016 following a brief illness.
A Celebration of Gary?s life will be held beginning at 3pm Tuesday, March 15 at the Blair House for family and freinds.
Gary was born May 9th (or 10th ? depending on who you ask) 1940 in Washington, IA. to Oral and Lucy Maxine (Shafer) York. Gary attended schools in Washington and in 1962 enlisted in the US Army. While serving in Germany, Gary met Jutta Wagner whom he later married and became the father of 3 children. In 1984 Gary and Shirley Wright were married and has remained his companion until his passing.
Gary loved traveling out West to visit grandchildren, Hot August Nights, auctions and just sitting behind the wheel and looking through the rear view mirror. His passion for American memorabilia and knowledge of classic automobiles has touched many.
Gary is survived by Shirley, his brother Ronald, 3 sons; Dennis, Scott, Kelly and stepson, Jeremy Rice. Gary was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many more extended family members.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Terry York.
The family kindly requests that consideration of checks and/or donations should be offered to the Corn Country Cruisers in Gary?s name in lieu of flowers or gifts. All proceeds will go to a good cause here locally on behalf of Gary and the ?Corn Country Cruisers?.
The York?s would like to thank all who have touched our fathers life and provided so many years of happiness and joy.
