Gary Wayne Michael, 75,

of Wayland, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 1,

2021, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City after failing in health for the past year.

General calling hours will begin 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at the

Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will be present to receive friends from 4 to

6 p.m. Private family

Gary was born, September 14, 1946, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of Leslie and Betty (Osmond) Michael. He attended school in Saginaw where he graduated from high school. Gary served honorably in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Jane Meierotto on July 1, 1994, in Washington, Iowa.

Gary lived in Michigan before moving to Wayland, Iowa, in the early 1990s. He worked for DeLong Keith Construction for many years. He previously worked at Crave Valve Company for a short time.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed following Jeff Gordon. Gary liked watching drag racing, watching college and NFL football, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He enjoyed socializing with friends and visiting with his family, especially his cousins: Tom Pappas, Gregg Pappas, Deb Brown, Dennis Wotchko and Denise Stachowiak.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Michael of Wayland, Iowa; daughter, Clover Rohe and husband Chad of Wayland, Iowa; step-son, Jeff Crabtree and wife Gina of Burlington, Iowa; son, Gary Michael Jr. of Ohio; daughter, Dawn Skidmore of Ohio; son, Chris Bennett of Michigan; seven grandchildren; mother, Betty Michael of Saginaw, Michigan; and two brothers, Rick Michael and wife Diane; and Dean Michael and wife Tammy of Saginaw, Michigan.

Gary was preceded in death by his father; son, Jeffrey; and grandparents, Earl and Ethel Osmond; and Fred and Mamie Michael.
