George was born July 26, 1943, in Alexandria, La., the son of Charles Marlin and Laura (Floyes) Plecker. He attended country school in Louisa and Washington counties and graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1961. He was united in marriage to Linda Johnson on Oct. 15, 1994, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He was previously married to Susie Thompson and through this union they raised two daughters, Tammy and Jodi.
Following his high school graduation, George began farming with his father on the Louisa Washington County Line. He continued to farm and drove a school bus for Columbus Community School District for several years and was later employed at Highland High School as the transportation director and bus driver. Following his marriage to Linda, George owned and operated G & L Trucking for several years. He later drove for Farm Service Center in Wyman, Iowa, and during his retirement he worked for the Washington County Transit Authority driving a Washington County Mini Bus.
George had a knack for mechanics and spent much of his adult life "fixing" something. Whether it was a tractor, school bus, vehicle, dump truck or lawn mower, George could fix anything. His knowledge of auto mechanics developed his passion for car racing and many weekends throughout his life he could be found working on a race car, serving as pit crew for his many "driver" friends at local dirt tracks, or just watching NASCAR races on television.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Plecker of Ainsworth; daughter, Tammy Orr of Clear Lake, Iowa; daughter, Jodi Ehlers and husband Richard of Edgewood, Iowa; stepdaughter, Tami Fulk and husband Jason of Ainsworth; stepson, Troy Melville and wife Jill of Bella Vista, Ark.; stepson, Tracy Melville of Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; sister, Betty Thompson and husband Jim of Ainsworth; brother, Marty Plecker and wife Sheri of Ainsworth; and five nephews, Mark Thompson and wife Sam of Ainsworth, Jason Thompson and wife Sami of Iowa City, Jeremie Thompson and wife Renae of Ainsworth, Nic Plecker and wife Megan of Fairfax, Iowa, and Stuart Plecker and wife Lindsay of Riverside, Iowa.
George was preceded in death by his parents.
