George O. "Oggie" Shelman, age 76, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 at the M.L. McCreedy Home after a nine month battle with cancer.

Calling hours will begin at noon Thursday, July 25, 2019 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Oggie was born November 18, 1942 in Washington, Iowa, the son of J.O. and Mildred (Caldwell) Shelman. He graduated in the first graduating class from Mid Prairie High School in 1961. Oggie was united in marriage to Janet Rae Richards on October 18, 1964 in Washington, Iowa.

Oggie was a life resident of Washington County. He drove a propane truck for Farm Service for 30 years and later drove truck for Eichelberger Farms until his retirement. Oggie collected toy tractors and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Todd J. Shelman of Washington, IA; son, Chris A. Shelman and wife Melanie of Washington, IA; son, Brett A. Shelman and wife Michelle of Galesburg, IL and Washington, IA; six grandchildren: Carly Moeller and husband Matt, Mady Shelman, Spencer Shelman, Brittany Sholl, Adison Shelman and Grant Shelman; and one brother, John Robert "Bob" Shelman of Washington, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2015; and sister-in-law, Pamella Shelman in 2018.
