Georgia Esther Maxwell

Georgia Esther Maxwell, 104, of Iowa City, died Saturday, July 8, 2000, at her niece?s home in Traverse City, Mich., following a short illness.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 14, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, July 13, at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.

Mrs. Maxwell was born March 6, 1896, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of George Edward and Theresa Veronica Jones Smith. She married Baldwin Maxwell in 1932. She graduated from the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore, Md., and pursued graduate studies in English at the University of Iowa. She was a longtime member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church and active in hiking club, Raphael Club, and EOS.

Survivors include a niece, a nephew, and seven great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Marcus A.J. Smith, Sr.
