Gerald C. Anderson, 85, of rural Brighton died Monday Dec. 10, at Park Place Long-Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton, where the family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville, with the Rev. Wayne Wilkin officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery adjacent to the church.
Memorials for Hope Lutheran Church or the Kids Against Hunger Ministry have been established and may be left at the funeral home, the church or mailed to the family at: 3169 146th Street, Brighton, IA 52540.
Mr. Anderson was born April 23, 1922 in Salina, the son of Carl J. and Maude Krumboltz Anderson. On Feb. 27, 1946, he married Edith Zihlman in Germanville.
He grew up south of Brighton, where he attended country school and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1940. He was a lifelong farmer and a longtime member of the Germanville Hope Lutheran Church, a township trustee for a number of years and a member of the Brighton Lions Club. He coached a men's fast pitch softball team for many years and enjoyed watching his granddaughters play both softball and volleyball.
He is survived by a daughter, Dianne Eckhardt of Kent, Wash.; a son, Larry Anderson and his wife Peggy of Brighton; two brothers, William Anderson of Salina and Clarence Anderson of Brighton; one sister, Dorothy Middlekoop of Batavia; four granddaughters, two great-grandchildren, and his special friend, Opal Wiggins of Trenton.
His parents, wife, brothers Wilbur and Merlyn Anderson, and sister Marjorie Russell preceded him in death.
