SHAWNEE, Kan. ? Gerald D. Humble, 83, of Shawnee, Kan., died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, in Shawnee Mission Medical Center.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kan. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kan. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Amos Family Chapel in Shawnee, Kan., where a rosary was recited at 6 p.m. A memorial fund has been established to St. Joseph?s Church Food Kitchen in Shawnee, Kan.
Mr. Humble was born Sept. 11, 1927, in Washington. He married Margaret E. Becker on Jan. 19, 1952.
After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army. After his service in the Army he attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 56 years and was active in numerous ministries and activities. He was a superintendent with the Holland Construction Company, retiring in 2002 after 50 years.
Surviving are his wife; his children, Chris Humble of Gardner Kan., Mark and Rhonda Humble of Gardner, Kan., Renee Humble of Mission, Kan., Grant and Lisa Humble of Kansas City, Kan., Matthew Humble of Kansas City, Kan., Paul and Brenda Humble of Altoona, and John and Kathryn Humble of Beatrice, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Renee Humble, RSM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant M. and Elizabeth (Bessie) Humble; one brother, John G. Humble; and one great-granddaughter.
