Gerald Eugene Mercer

      Gerald Eugene Mercer, 84, of Keswick, died following a brief illness Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

      A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English, with the Rev. John Tunnicliff officiating.

      Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

      A memorial fund has been established for James Murphy American Legion Post No. 319, Keswick First Responders and Thornburg United Methodist Church.

      Mr. Mercer was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Packwood, the son of Edward and Iva Ramsey Mercer. He married Helen Marie Oliver June 16, 1946, in Packwood.
