Gilbert Raymond Mitchell, 87, of Wayland, died Saturday evening, Oct. 12, 2019, at Parkview of Wellman. He was born May 3, 1932, in Ollie, to John Lloyd and Addie Belle Cavin Mitchell. He grew up in Ollie and Richland and graduated from West Chester High School in 1952. Gilbert was married and divorced twice. He worked at Washington Ready Mix, Bob Bruty Construction, part time as a farmer and as an over the road truck driver. Gilbert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Gilbert is survived by one son, Guy Mitchell, and his wife, Diane of Brighton, daughter, Peggy Gingerich of Wayland and Jim Gingerich, Keota; two grandchildren, Jamie Kinzenbaw and Jennifer Fagen; three great-grandchildren, Jace and Joydyn Kinzenbaw and Case Fagen; and one sister, Barb Gesling of Washington.

He was preceded by his parents; brothers, Ralph W. Mitchell and Daniel D. Mitchell; and sister, Francis Lowe.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton with the Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in Schrock Cemetery North of Coppock with military honors by American Legion Post No. 29.
