Gladys Rebecca King
Gladys Rebecca King, 103, of Burlington, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Bickford Cottage in Burlington, following declining health.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 15 at the Fairfield Friends Church in Fairfield, with the Pastor Dave Elmore officiating. Burial will be in the Salem South Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, July 14 at the Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials have been established to Salem Friends Church, Fairfield Friends Church or Quakerdale.
Mrs. King was born Feb. 4, 1901, in Salem, the daughter of Thomas Eli and Rebecca Jane Fraizer White. She married George Marion "Pat" King May 12, 1921 at the Methodist Parsonage in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death. She was a 1919 graduate of Salem High School, a graduate of the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught school for two years. She was a charter member of the Fairfield Friends Church and was a prior member of the Salem Friends Church. She was president of the North Side Mothers Club. She devoted her life to her family and enjoyed crocheting and reading. She spent all of her life in the Salem, Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant area.
Survivors include five sons, Rex and his wife Darleen King of Webster City, Charles and his wife Ruby King of Cedar Rapids, William and his wife Carol King of Mt. Pleasant, Robert and his wife Maxine King of Rogers, Ark., and James and his wife Grace King of Muscatine; four daughters, Estyl and her husband Richard Breazeale of Iowa City, Katherine and her husband William Ross of Hillsboro, Linda and her husband Tom Cameron of Burlington, and Patti and her husband Barney Nicol of Mt. Pleasant; a sister-in-law, Darlene King of Boulder, Colo.; 40 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; six sisters; a son, Merlin; two daughters, Marilyn and Joanne; a grandson; and a great-grandson.
