GLEN EVAN HENDRICKS
Keosauqua
Glen Evan Hendricks passed away on August 27, 2021. He was born in rural Troy, Iowa, on June 4, 1923,
to George and Eva Hendricks. He married Betty Whitcanack on January 1, 1947. They had 73 years together before her passing in 2019. Glen and Betty raised four daughters, Linda, Judy, Ann and Barbara.
Glen joined the Navy in 1943, and served as a Seabee until his release in 1946. He was trained as a welder and did repairs on battleships in the Admiralty Islands. He made lifelong friends during this time. Glen and Betty purchased the Stockport blacksmith shop in January of 1953, and then in 1968, they purchased the International Harvester Dealership in Keosauqua, where many of his employees referred to him as "their best boss." He was a member of the Christian Church, Stockport School Board, American Legion Post 147 and the Masonic Lodge.
Glen and Betty loved to travel and visited all 50 states, plus Mexico and Canada. After retirement, they began spending their winters in Arizona and enjoyed walking the many trails there and visiting with other Iowa snowbirds. While in Arizona, he met a hiking buddy who became a very close friend and for years they spent many hours exploring together.
Some of Glen's favorite things were hiking, playing cards with family and friends and attending his children's, grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities.
Glen was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter, Judy; a son-in-law, Chuck Johnson; a grandson, Mike Brown; three brothers, Stan, Bob and Wayne; and one sister, Kathryn Beggs.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Johnson, Ann (Jack) Goddard and Barbara (Jim) Boley; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Leona Whitcanack; and many special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating. The family will be present at the funeral home to greet friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. Burial services will follow at the Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Glen's honor to the Van Buren County Trails Association and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at P.O. Box 382, Keosauqua, IA 52565.
