KALONA ? Gloria Ann Bontrager, 63, of Iowa City, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, after a 1 ½-year battle with breast cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 11, at the First Mennonite Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday at the church. A memorial fund has been established for First Mennonite Church kitchen and Iowa City Hospice. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Bontrager was born Sept. 22, 1952, in Canton, Ohio, the daughter of Jonas J. and Donella Mae (Zook) Coblentz. She married Dan Bontrager on Jan. 26, 1974, in Lewisville, Ohio.
She graduated from Marlington High School in 1970 and from Hesston College in 1972. She and her husband made their home in the Iowa City community, where she was a wife and mother to her family. She was a member of First Mennonite Church in Iowa City. She was also known for the strawberry pies she brought to the MCC sale and the football concession stand which she started at church. She enjoyed gardening, working outside, and volunteering her time at many church functions; but most of all, she loved her family and spending time with them.
Surviving are her husband, Dan, of Iowa City; one son, Aaron Bontrager of Iowa City; one daughter, Johanna Bishop and husband Brad of Fort Collins, Colorado; two grandchildren; her parents, of North Canton, Ohio; two sisters, Rosella Hernley and husband Dan of Sarasota, Florida, and Judy Vadasz and husband Howard of Hartville, Ohio; one brother, Randy Coblentz and wife Ruth of Sarasota, Florida; six nieces and nephews; and four great-nieces and great-nephews.
