KALONA ? Grace Marie Strickler, 100, of Kalona, died Thursday, April 21, 2011, in the Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
A celebration of life service was held Monday, April 25, at the Kalona United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gerry Kahler and the Rev. David L. Yoder officiating. Burial was at Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation was held Sunday at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona United Methodist Church and Pleasantview Home.
Mrs. Strickler was born Feb. 27, 1911, in Kalona, the daughter of John and Julia (Barger) Grecian. She married Lovell Strickler in June 1930 in Kalona.
She graduated from Kalona High School in 1929. She was a homemaker, and she and her husband owned and operated Strickler Feed for many years. She was a devoted member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, where she served in many ways over the years, and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a charter member of the Kalona Rebekah Lodge. She volunteered for many years for various organizations, including the Kalona Public Library, Washington County Senior Center, Washington County Lending Hands Adult Day Care and the Pleasantview Home. She enjoyed living life to the fullest.
Surviving are one daughter, Marilyn Grout of Kalona; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Ervin Grecian; and three infant sisters.
