Gregory Lee Brower, 75, of Richland died early Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.
He was born Aug. 26, 1946, in Ottumwa, the son of Charles Henry and Grace Emily Robison Brower. He grew up in South English, Iowa, and attended English Valley Schools, graduating in 1964. He later attended Auto Mechanic School in Kansas City, Mo. Upon returning, he married Linda Engle and to this union his daughter, Lisa, and son, Scott, were born. They later divorced. Greg married Kathy Streigle on Aug. 6, 1985, at Lake Keomah, outside of Oskaloosa, Iowa. Greg worked at Century Motors in Sigourney and was an active member of the U.S. Army Reserves before becoming a Keokuk County Deputy serving his county for 29 years. He retired December 2001. He was a previous member of Kiwanis, Richland City Council and Iowa State Sheriff and Deputies Association. Greg enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, casinos, woodworking, coin collecting and spending time with family, friends, playing slow pitch softball in his earlier days and giving his dog Abby rides on his golf cart.
Greg is survived by his wife, Kathy of 36 years; daughter, Lisa Hol of Sigourney; son, Scott Brower (Keely) of Washington; four grandchildren, Colin, Kaylee and Cameron Hol and Fletcher Brower; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Douglas Brower (Gloria) of Surprise, Ariz., and Keith Brower (Shari) of Burlington; and sister Lori Phillips (Oren) of Pella. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Loretta Streigle of Sigourney; sisters-in-law, Dorie Brower of Cedar Rapids, Sue Pfannebecker (Pat) of Hedrick, Dianna Streigle of Pontiac, Mo., and Alisca de Regnier (Doug) of North English; brothers-in-law, John Semonco of Pequea, Pa., and Aaron Streigle (Tammy) of Sigourney; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carolyn Semonco; brother, Kevin Brower; brother-in-law, Arthur Streigle; and father-in-law, Arthur “Dick” Streigle.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, and funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, both at Prairie View United Methodist Church 27131 Hwy 78, Ollie, Iowa, with the Rev. Steven Lamb officiating. There will be no burial at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 309 W. Main St., Richland, IA 52585. Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
