Gustaf Warren Scott
Gustaf Warren Scott, 84, of 162 Bickford Drive, West Branch died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a lengthy illness.
His body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial of the cremains will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. Memorials can be sent to the East Central Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
Mr. Scott was born June 22, 1915, near Lockridge, the son of Gustaf Victor and Esther Ann Cassel Scott. He married Doris Alice Fischer on May 15, 1937, in Ottumwa. He attended Fairfield High School and Parsons College. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was discharged in 1946. He traveled for Continental Oil Company as a District Superintendent until 1947. He partnered with his brother in the Scott Equipment Company in Winfield. In 1965, he co-founded Farm and Fleet Center (Fleetway Stores) in Muscatine, Iowa City, and Marion and served as president until his retirement. He and his wife relocated to West Branch in May 1999. During his years in Winfield, Warren was a member of the city council, volunteer fire department, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Winfield Legion Post #643, and the Community Building Board. He was also an avid golfer, traveler, and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Winfield.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Jim Scott of West Branch; one daughter, Julie Scott of Iowa City; one brother, Charles T. Scott of Winfield; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Judith Marie McIntosh.
