Guy C. Mills
Burlington
Guy C. Mills, 90, of Burlington, died on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at home with his family.
Guy was born on February 5, 1932, in Hillsboro, Iowa, the son of Clayton and Marie Mills. He graduated from nearby Salem High School, and went on to serve in the Iowa National Guard, where he was recognized for his sharp shooting skills.
On June 18, 1952, he married Winona Haffner in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, in a double ceremony alongside his brother, Lyle, who married Winona's twin sister, Ramona.
Guy made his living as a long-haul truck driver who went by the handle “8 Ball," and knew the highways like a human GPS, years before GPS was a thing. He always had a pen in his pocket, a cap on his head, and a joke on the tip of his tongue. He had a gift for making people laugh, whether it was his nurse or the cashier at McDonald's, where he had a sweet tea and breakfast burrito every morning for years.
Guy played a mean harmonica and never lost a game of croquet. Everyone who knew him described him as a good man.
Survivors include his daughter Brenda (Tony) Levitt; two grandchildren, Ashley (Adam) Moore and Joel Levitt; one great-grandson, Davis Moore; one brother, Keith (Mary) Mills; one sister, Ruby Mills Vance; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lyle Mills; several nieces and nephews including Jackie (David) Needham and Allen (Trina) Mills; special great-nephew, Michael Needham; special great-niece, Laura (Adam) Miller; and special friend, Lavon Pfadenhauer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers, Harold Mills and Lyle Mills.
Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St.
