DAVENPORT ? Gwendolyn J. ?Gwen? Schneider, 89, of Bettendorf, died Friday, June 3, 2016, in Genesis Medical Center ? West Campus in Davenport.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, at First Presbyterian Church at 1702 Iowa Street in Davenport. Memorial visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Music Fund or to the First Presbyterian Church Davenport Foundation.
Mrs. Schneider was born in 1927 in Washington, the daughter of Harry W. and Lena I. Ramseyer. She married Ronald M. Schneider on July 24, 1957, in Crown Point, Indiana.
She earned her bachelor?s degree from Cornell College. She and her husband relocated to the Quad Cities in 1961, where they raised their family. For much of her career, she was a medical secretary with the Davenport Surgical Group, retiring in 1993. Very active in church and community activities, she was a member, past deacon and past elder of First Presbyterian Church in Davenport; past president and 50-year member of P.E.O. Chapter IB; served as a volunteer for the Auxiliary at Genesis East Medical Center and Meals On Wheels; and was a member of CASI. She was also an associate member of the Davenport Area Retired Educators. Music was a central part of her life. She enjoyed singing in the First Presbyterian Sanctuary Choir for 47 years and was also a piano teacher and a member of the Etude Club. She loved attending the symphony and various musicals and concerts. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She always insisted on hosting holidays and events for her family so she could spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Ron; one daughter, Rhonda Wilkison and husband David of Eagle, Colorado; one son, Gordon Schneider and wife Julie of Bettendorf; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Harry W. Ramseyer and wife Mary of Tempe, Arizona; and numerous cousins and special friends.
