Harley E. Walker

Harley E. Walker, 89, of Mediapolis and formerly of New London and Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 14, at the Integrated Health Services in Mediapolis.

      A private graveside service will be at a later time in the Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis. The body will be cremated. The Hagele and Honts Funeral Home of Mediapolis is in charge of arrangements.

      Mr. Walker was born Dec. 14, 1910, at Mediapolis, the son of Harley E. and Stella Parrott Walker. He married Mary Doler in 1964 who died nine years later. He later married Helen Sperfslage Young at Burlington; she died in 1982. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, continuing in the service after the war and retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. During his retirement he worked with the Iowa Department of Transportation and with the Driver?s License Bureau.

      Survivors include his daughter, Lisa A. Bigelow of Media, Penn.; a sister, Martha Young of Mediapolis; a granddaughter, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
