Harley W. Nelson
Harley W. Nelson, 83, of Winfield died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at the Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25, from the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield with the Rev. Todd Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will meet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield.
Mr. Nelson was born Nov. 20, 1916, in Lenox, the son of Frank and Esther Becherer Nelson. He married Myrtha McMath on Nov. 29, 1938, in Washington. He was a 1934 graduate of the Lenox High School. He moved to Winfield and farmed the same farm since 1943. He was baptized and joined the Winfield First Presbyterian Church in 1943, where he was an elder and deacon.
Survivors include his wife of Winfield; one daughter, Sandra J. Dennis of West Burlington; two sons, Richard M. Nelson of Davenport and Robert C. Nelson of Muscatine; one sister, Thelma Schaller of Creston; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.
