Harold Ray Bender

      KALONA - Harold Ray Bender, 79, of Kalona, died Monday, June 23, 2008, in the Pleasantview Home in Kalona of cancer.

      Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 26, in the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in Kalona with the Rev. Don Patterson officiating. Burial will be in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Memorials may be made to the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church.

      Mr. Bender was born Aug. 29, 1928 in rural Johnson County, the son of Daniel and Maude (Swartzendruber) Bender. He married Ila Hochstetler on April 17, 1949 in the East Union Mennonite Church.
