RIVERSIDE ? Harry Samuel McGrath, 88, of Ainsworth, died Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, in Parkview Manor in Wellman.
Burial will be held at a later date in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. The Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside is handling the arrangements.
Mr. McGrath was born on April 15, 1928, in Story, the son of Earl W. and Myrtle M. (Utley) McGrath. He married Betty Lucile Tharp on Nov. 1, 1953, in Iowa City.
He served with the Army from Jan. 22,1951, to Dec. 23, 1952, during the Korean War, attaining the rank of corporal, and he also received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was a farmer in the Iowa City area his entire life. He was a DAV commander for 25 years for Johnson, Washington, Iowa and Cedar counties. He enjoyed volunteering for the VA, gardening, working outside, and feeding the birds.
Surviving are his wife, Betty, of Ainsworth; two children, Kevin McGrath and wife Dianne of Ainsworth, and Vicki Olson of Glyndon, Minnesota; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Myrtle Robinson of Victor; one brother, Ted McGrath and wife Soledad of National City, California; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Tom, Joe, and Fred; and two sisters, Nadine, and Vita.
