KALONA ? Hazel L. Burrows, 90, of Kalona, died Monday, March 21, 2016, in Parkview Manor in Wellman.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 24, at the Church of The Nazarene at 1035 Wade Street in Iowa City, with the Rev. Michael Lynch officiating. Following a fellowship time at the church, a graveside service will be held at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Church of The Nazarene Chaplaincy.
Mrs. Burrows was born Dec. 11, 1925, in Pollock, Missouri, the daughter of Bernice and Amel (Morelan) Kimes. She married Wesley N. Burrows on April 17, 1945, in Moulton.
As a child on the farm, she loved riding horses and taking care of the sheep. She graduated from Moulton High School. She was a member of the Church of The Nazarene, and she and her husband enjoyed traveling to a number of nursing homes each month to sing and play the guitar for the residents. They also had a radio show on a station in Centerville, and later on KCII in Washington.
Surviving are her husband, Wes, of Kalona; three sons, Rayner Burrows and wife Pat, David Burrows and wife Doreen, and Jerry Burrows and wife Tina, all of Kalona; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Rushlo of Phoenix, Arizona; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, James.
