Helen E. Hires July 27, 1918 - November 24, 2003

Helen Elvera Hires, 85, of Muscatine, formerly of Burlington, died at 6:05 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at Muscatine Care Center.

      The graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28 in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. John Griffith officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established to West Burlington Christian Church.

      Survivors include three daughters, Diana Andres and Mary Chamberlain, both of West Burlington, and Theresa Norris of Muscatine; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; six sisters, Evangeline Savage of Burlington, Bonnie Anker of Dalton, Ill., Marian Anderson of Mt. Pleasant, Gloria Delashmutt and Doris Anderson, both of Davenport, and Margaret Huisman of Elmwood, Ill.; and a brother, Donald Swanson of New London.

      In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, two sisters and one brother.
