Helen J. Kellogg Gerling, age 98 of Winfield, died Saturday March 16, 2019 at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield. The daughter of Claud B. and Ora (Wolf) Rhodebeck, she was born August 8, 1920 in Washington county. She married E. Dale Kellogg July 12, 1942, he died in September 1975. On November 16, 1984 she married Melvin Gerling, he died in October 2002. She was a 1939 graduate of Washington High School and a 1941 graduate of Washington Junior College. She taught county school in Washington county.

They farmed near Mt. Union and Winfield and raised and showed purebred spotted hogs.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, where she had served as an elder and secretary of the board. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Women, taught Bible school, and drove the Presbyterian caravan. She had been active in both Boy and Girl Scouts, conducted several pie auctions, was chairman of PTA and Music Mothers, enjoyed playing cards and volunteering.

Survivors include: one daughter Betty Jo Lintz (Gene) of Crawfordsville; one son Tony Kellogg of Winfield; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; one sister Mary McCall (Richard) of Washington and a sister in law Dorothy Jean Helphrey (Wendell) of Winfield; She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one daughter Connie and one son Larry, one granddaughter and one sister.

Funeral services will be Friday March 22, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dottie Halverson officiating. Interment will follow at the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. The family will meet with friends Thursday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield. A memorial has been established for the First Presbyterian Church.
