Helen I. Miller Underwood October 11, 1912 - October 24, 2005

      Helen I. Miller Underwood, 93, of New London, formerly of Burlington, died at 2:45 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2005, at New London Nursing and Rehab Center.

      The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, with the Rev. Matt Miller officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Mt. Union. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26 at the chapel, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial has been established.

      Survivors include five daughters, Loretta Bliss, Martha Morse and Sandy Parton, all of Burlington, Ruth Fischer of New London, and Ramona Underwood of Bloomfield; three sons, Gerald "Pete" Underwood and George Underwood, both of Burlington, and Garry Underwood of Fort Madison; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Culler of New London.

      In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, her parents, a brother, two sisters, a grandson and three stepgreat-grandsons.
