Helen M. Reschly, age 92, of Washington, Iowa, died Thursday, December 1, 2022, at the Halcyon House in Washington following an extended illness.
The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home. Private family interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for Hospice Compassus. Helen was born August 15, 1930, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Lyle and Rachel (Johnson) Wilcox. She attended country school through eighth grade and graduated from Washington High School in 1948. Helen was united in marriage to James E. “Jim” Reschly on March 11, 1950, in Washington.
Helen lived all of her life in Washington County where she was a Switchboard Operator at a local telephone company, worked at the Washington Public Library for several years, and worked at the Abstract Division of Livingston, Day, Meeker and Bates Law Office until her retirement. Helen came out of retirement to work at the Bordwell Abstract office, retiring again at age 82.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church. Helen enjoyed doing crosswords and was an avid reader and an avid genealogist. Helen learned to swim at the age of 48, and later taught swim lessons for the American Red Cross.
She is survived by five children: Mick Reschly and wife Ranee of Wayland, Iowa; Cyndie Lopshire and husband Bill of Riverside, Iowa; Carrie Klopfenstein and husband Paul of Winfield, Iowa; Matt Reschly of Washington, Iowa; Todd Reschly and Lisa Fowler of Brighton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Helen is also survived by her brother-in-law, Dale Richards and sister-in-law, Susan Gilmere, both of Washington, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim in 2013; grandson, Justin in 2000; and one sister, Louise Richards.
