Helen M. Tackenberg

      Helen M. Tackenberg, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, died at 2:56 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Henry County Health Center.

      The funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, at the First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Edward R. Peterson and the Rev. Kiboko I. Kiboko officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service, with family present from 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church.

      Mrs. Tackenberg was born Nov. 5, 1918, at Washington, the daughter of Oscar and Opal M. McBride Gardner. She married Oliver E. Tackenberg on Feb. 15, 1941, at Independence. She attended Washington schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Bethlehem Chapter #38 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

      Survivors include a daughter, Jean and Denny Reschly of rural Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Lester Gardner of Iowa City and Donald Gardner of Washington; two sisters, Gladys Gardner and Mildred Kamper, both of Washington; and two granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Earl and Cloyd Gardner.
