Helen Turnipseed

Helen M. Turnipseed, 89, of Washington died Thursday, March 16, 2017, in the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 20, at the Washington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Blanchard officiating. Burial followed in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation was held two hours prior to the service at the church. A memorial has been established to the United Presbyterian Health Center. Beatty Funeral Home in Washington is assisting with arrangements.

Mrs. Turnipseed was born June 30, 1927, in Washington, the daughter of AG and Dorothy Imogene (Van Dyke) Swanson. She married Marion Turnipseed on Aug. 14, 1949, at the Washington United Methodist Church.

She graduated from West Chester High School in 1945. She was a member of the Washington United Methodist Church. She was employed with the Washington County auditor, Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., and retired from Meredith Corporation Successful Farming Magazine in Des Moines. She enjoyed painting, shopping, bowling, and was a silver medalist in the 1990 Senior Games.

Surviving are her husband, Marion, of Washington; one son, David, of Des Moines; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Rhonda Van Horne, in 2005.
