Helen Wilhelmina Gisser
Helen Wilhelmina Gisser, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, died 4:31 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at the Van Vorhies Haus in Mt. Pleasant.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant with Dr. Douglas Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Friends may sign the register Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. There will be no family visitation. Memorials have been established to the Richwoods Cemetery and the Crossroads Hospice of Southeast Iowa. Arrangements are by the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant.
Mrs. Gisser was born July 8, 1910, in Scott Township, the daughter of Job Lloyd and Julia Johnson Ford. She attended rural and public schools and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1929. She married Raymond Glen Gisser on July 14, 1934 in Mt. Pleasant. She started her business career as a legal secretary and worked in a variety of positions over the years. She was a 55-year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant, volunteered for many organizations, and compiled and published a book of the Ford family history.
Survivors include a daughter, Janis K. and Daniel Smyth of Burlington; two sisters, Evelyn Higgins of Burlington and Irene Tiley of Liberty, Mo.; two grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, an infant daughter, two sisters and one brother.
