Herbert E. Grinstead
Herbert E. "Eddie" Grinstead, 81, of Le Mars, formerly of New London and Amarillo, Texas, died Monday, Feb. 18 at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Elliott Chapel in New London, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Elliott Chapel, with the Rev. Dot Hasler officiating. Burial will be at Burge Cemetery in New London.
A memorial has been established.
He was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Danville, the son of Glenn and Wilma Smith Grinstead. On Feb. 4, 1950, he married Alice McElhaney in Burlington.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a radio operator in World War II, he received a technical degree in electronics in Chicago. He worked at Sylvania and IAAP and at Pantex in Amarillo, Texas, and as a part-time television repairman in New London.
He was a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Amarillo and a former member of New London United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Masons and served as a Boy Scout leader.
He is survived by his son, Ray Grinstead and his wife Lois of Le Mars; two sisters, Betty Litton of Mt. Pleasant and Leota Gilbert of Villa Park, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
His parents and wife preceded him in death.
