Herschel Mendenhall

      BRIGHTON - Herschel Mendenhall, 89, of Wayland, died Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Parkview Home in Wayland.

      Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Pleasant Plain Friends Church, with the Rev. Stan Bauer and the Rev. Karen Mendenhall officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the services. Mr. Mendenhall deeded his body to The University of Iowa Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology. Burial at Pleasant Plain Friends Cemetery will be at a later date. Memorials have been established for Quakerdale Children's Home, Pleasant Plain Friends Church and William Penn University. Gould Funeral Home in Brighton is handling arrangements.

      Mr. Mendenhall was born May 6, 1915, in Hartford, Conn., to Lloyd Hadley and Bertha Louise (Hammond) Mendenhall. His mother died in August 1925, and his father later married Orpha Hadley. He married Mildred Coffin in Pleasant Plain on Nov. 27, 1941.
