Hobart H. Jackson Jr., age 91 of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Matteson, Illinois, died Monday, January 30, 2023, in Washington, Iowa.
The family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2023 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2023, at the Skyline Memorial Chapel in Monee, Illinois. Interment with military honors will take place at Skyline Memorial Cemetery in Monee, Illinois. Memorials have been established for the Coffman Bend Fire Department, Coffman Bend Civic Center or the Climax Springs Fire Department. Hobart was born August 24, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Hobart H. and Janet Elise (Miller) Jackson. He attended school in Chicago where he graduated from South Shore High School. Hobart was united in marriage to Joan Roberta (Guilotte) on January 16, 1954, in Matteson, Illinois. She passed away in 2006. Hobart was married to Marlene (Peiffer) Horning on April 3, 2010, in Climax Springs, Missouri.
Hobart served honorably in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1955. He worked as a Typewriter Repairman for Cooks Office Machines retiring in 1996. He lived in Matteson, Illinois; Climax Springs, Missouri; and Boliver, Missouri, before moving to Washington in 2020. While in Climax Springs, Hobart was a member of the Presbyterian Church, was a Volunteer Fireman and was President of the Civic Center for 17 years. He enjoyed boating.
Hobart is survived by his wife, Marlene Jackson of Washington, Iowa; son, Gary W. Jackson; two grandchildren, Russell R. (Elizabeth) Jackson and Amber D. (Clayton) Wismer; and great-granddaughter, Sabrina A. Wismer all of Crest Hill, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan R. Jackson; daughter, Cynthia K. Jackson; two brothers, Dave Jackson and Larry Jackson; and one sister, Daphne Cunningham.
