Idell Hamill
Idell Hamill, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
The funeral service was 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Roger Farmer of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church officiating. Open visitation was from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. There will be no family visitation. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
Mrs. Hamill was born Feb. 14, 1920 in New London, the daughter of Harlan and Edna Raines Hunter. She married Edward Gary Driskell in 1940 and moved to Mt. Pleasant. Following 18 years of marriage, she married Robert J. Hamill on Oct. 5, 1961. A 1937 graduate of New London High School, she worked at the Glove Factory in New London and at Staats in Mt. Pleasant; she and Robert Hamill owned and operated the Mt. Pleasant Dairy Queen until retiring in 1982.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Hamill of Mt. Pleasant and Larry and Reita Driskell of Muscatine; a daughter, Sonja and Brad Roth of Wayland; two brothers, Delvin and Ivan Hunter of New London; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and a sister, Virginia Williams.
